Columbian ground squirrel (Urocitellus columbianus) in the alpine meadow of Ptarmigan Cirque, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Alberta. These high-elevation rodents experience a very short active season and hibernate most of the year. Their ecophysiology is under study by researchers at the University of Saskatchewan.

PhD Opportunity: Weaving Knowledges in Moose Ecology

The WISE Lab (University of Guelph) and Northrup Lab (MNRF, Trent) are looking for a PhD candidate to work with us and First Nations partners in Northwestern Ontario to weave knowledges in moose ecology. This research is part of a highly collaborative effort to better understand and protect moose populations in Ontario and beyond, and will include a combination of field work, community knowledge gathering, outreach and relationship building, and supporting the development of better, more inclusive policy related to moose management.
