About the Department
The Department of Biology consists of 25 full-time and 11 affiliated faculty members with a broad area of expertise and research interests; over 100 graduate students, who are the driving force of research activities; and technical and support staff. We offer over 60 Biology undergraduate and graduate courses, in subject areas including cell biology, genetics, genomics, biotechnology, organismal biology, ecology, evolution and conservation biology. Our research fields are grouped into several broad areas of biology: Genomics, Synthetic Biology, Ecology and Cell/Molecular biology, and are well-funded by external research grants, either from federal or provincial governments, or from industry.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications
We seek candidates who conduct empirical and conceptually driven research in biodiversity that includes urban and semi-urban environments as study systems. Research areas of interest are broadly defined and could include questions in ecology or evolution at the population, community or ecosystem levels. We particularly encourage applications from candidates whose research program complements other research within the cluster hire in addition to the Faculty or Department. Applicants must have a PhD in a related field with a strong record of sustained publications. The appointee will be expected to build an active and externally funded research program involving graduate students at the MSc and PhD levels.

How to apply
Applications must consist of a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, copies of two relevant and recent publications, a statement of teaching philosophy/interests, a statement of research achievements and plans, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. In addition, candidates must submit the names and contact information of three referees.

Applications should be submitted on or before February 28, 2018.
